Since the notorious “Here in my garage” video and Tai Lopez SMMA course, many budding entrepreneurs flock to Social Media Marketing to build their online business.
Success and failure is not black or white, but Christien Bouc, a six figure marketing agency owner, can shed some light how he built up a quarter of a million dollar business with Instagram.
Why do you think most people fail? Why do they succeed?
- They give up too early. Tai Lopez hypes you up and says you’ll make $10,000 a month in no time. That’s marketing haha! The people who do this for the long term make it work. It’s just a matter of how long it will take them.”
- They try to do everything! You are only 1 person, so cut yourself some slack. You humanly can not learn web design, social media marketing, paid advertising, and graphic design all at the same time. Better to develop a specific skill and only sell that one service.
- They do not pick a niche. I did not do this when I started out (guilty as charged). However, going too broad can be the difference between success and failure. I recommend going niched and I had better results on focusing solely on “Instagram Marketing” as opposed to “Social Media Marketing”. Ideally, it’s better to go even more niched like “Instagram Celebrity Giveaways” or “Instagram Advertising”, “Instagram For Entrepreneurs”, ect.
- They do not outsource. If you do not have a skill, find someone else who does and who can provide the service for you. Focus on getting more sales. Outsource early and develop a team.
What moment did your business start to skyrocket? What changed?
“The shift happened for me when I found my first, great service provider. This allowed me to spend 80% of my time on networking and marketing my services instead of delivering. This was a game-changer.”
What service(s) do you recommend a new beginner sell?
“For beginners, celebrity promotions and giveaway campaigns are what I recommend as delivery is relatively straightforward. Instagram Ads retainers or Targeted shoutout campaigns can be difficult to close when you can not guarantee results. If you have a skill, then I would focus on marketing that, but posting is also a great subscription service for beginners!”
What are the biggest mistakes you see beginners make?
“They do not invest money into their Instagram account. Instagram really is the new business card. Whether you are an agency, brick and mortar, or online store, your Instagram is what the public looks at before conducting business with you.
Whether you are an agency or a brand, investing a monthly budget back into your Instagram account is vital and something I see neglected far too often.”
