A good indicator to determine if someone is going to be successful is if they have three sequential things: people, processes, and platform. Most people have the hustle, the dream, or the skills but they lack the people, a process, or a platform. A good mentor has the people, the process, and a platform. If you want to be successful, then you need a good mentor.
Let’s define what this means.
The “people” are the network. They’re those who will work with you to help you achieve your goals. They’re those who you will learn from in order to prevent mistakes where time and money is lost. They’re those who will introduce you to other people who will help you find the people you need to accomplish what you’re trying to accomplish. You could either jump around for years from networking event to networking event or you can connect with a mentor who already has the network.
The “process” is the interlocking link between people and a platform. Most people may have the people and a platform but they don’t have a process or a system. The process allows them to create repeatable excellence, delegate, duplicate, and create self-sustaining impact. You might have the most intelligent people in the world with the greatest opportunity, but if there is no process, then goals will not be achieved as time-efficiently as possible.
The “platform” is where the skills, hustle, and people can be applied to in order to achieve what they want. If you think about how you will achieve something great, you might think, “Why will I do this? Who will I do this with? How will I do this? What will I do this with?” The platform is the “what”. You can have the greatest people in the world with the greatest process of doing things, but if you don’t have anything tangible to apply this to, then you won’t actually accomplish anything.
These three key points work together sequentially. To achieve greatness, you must have all three working together. A mentor helps you find and use these three key points. He or she may already have all three of these things and is simply looking for someone to give them to.
Now that you know why a mentor is important, you need to understand what constitutes a good mentor.
Let’s look at Logan Young as an example.
In early 2016, Logan Young worked at Pizza Hut. By mid 2017, Logan was traveling around the world speaking at large conferences and hanging out with Mark Zuckerberg.

What changed for Logan that helped him make such an intense growth journey?
Logan Young gained a mentor. That mentor is Dennis Yu. Dennis has the people, processes, and platform in place ready to be given to anyone who wants to be mentored and has the same growth potential as Logan Young. Dennis has been successful in business for over twenty years, so he has the people in his network who gave Logan those speaking opportunities all around the world. Dennis has created the process over the years to help Logan efficiently create repeatable excellence. He created BlitzMetrics which is a platform that allows Logan to apply his knowledge and skills toward. Dennis Yu is a good mentor to Logan Young. A good mentor is someone who genuinely cares about your long-term success and not just immediate results. If you want to have the growth that Logan Young has had, then find a mentor who is willing to give you access to people, processes, and a platform.
