What are you working on?
Hilary Silver: I’ve been growing my business from a successful, local brick and mortar therapy practice to a digital based global coaching and consulting company.
How did you come up with this idea?
Hilary Silver: After 15 years working with thousands of clients one at a time in the privacy of my office, I realized that everyone needs to hear my helping messages as we all share common struggles in the relationship we have with ourselves, with our primary love partners and in our work. This was around the time Periscope emerged and I latched onto to Live video as a medium for sharing and connecting with my audience. In order to serve the masses, I’ve been letting go of working with people one at a time and transitioning to group programs, digital courses, masterminds and media. But the original drive came from a deep desire to share my knowledge and make a larger impact.
How is your company different?
Hilary Silver: There are a lot of coaches out there and everyone is an expert these days. I pride myself in being credentialed as a licensed therapist with my many years of experience working with people privately. But I think what sets me apart is my super sassy and candid, ‘tell it like it is’ authenticity. Even as an expert, I fall short of the ideal all the time and I openly share my ups and downs with my audience and my clients. Knowing best doesn’t mean doing best is always the case. I walk the walk and lead by example so I think it’s the combination of those two things that sets me apart from all the others in my industry.
What’s your dream with your company?
Hilary Silver: To be fully online and to release my local office space, to launch my signature program twice a year and fill my masterminds with rock star women. Filling live events because the energy is out of this world and something in TV/radio (that is still coming into focus).
How do you creatively advertise?
Hilary Silver: I’ve been in the process of fine-tuning my offers and building out funnels for each of them. The only advertising I do is speaking, live video and collaborating with other badass helping professionals!
How does being an entrepreneur affect your marriage and family? Have you had problems trying to do it all?
Hilary Silver: At times it can be very tricky to manage all the pieces, do them well and enjoy it along the way. Things definitely take a little longer in business when you have a family and are committed to being there.
It IS totally possible to do it all, have it all and enjoy it too; but each of these areas of relationship in my life are equally important to me. If I focus too much on my business, my marriage can become distressed but that in turn affects my performance in my business- and when I’m not taking good care of myself, my home life and my business feel it. These 3 areas intersect and feed off of one another so it takes deliberate intention to make time for all three and to protect that time so I can be present no matter where my attention is focused.
What were your biggest failure and biggest success? What did you learn from them?
Hilary Silver: My biggest success was growing my therapy practice to over 6 figures within a couple years while working only 2 ½ days a week so I could be home with my kids. Making that kind of money one hour at a time is difficult but especially being multi-passionate and valuing quality time as a wife and mom. I learned that I can manifest anything I want because I believe deeply in myself (and I’ve since learned having a clear vision is a big part of achieving that success).
This journey to grow online has had many moments of success and failure. I’ve actually come to understand that what I’ve been doing is actually not an extension of the old, but rather the complete end of one and beginning of another new business. I think one of the biggest failures was when I created my first online course and then tried to sell it when I didn’t yet have an audience. That was a huge lesson in how the online world works.
Value-add questions
Give the readers the best entrepreneurship advice you have.
Hilary Silver: It starts with you. Everything starts with you. No matter what you do in personal or professional life, it is all about relationships. The relationship you have with yourself will determine the success you have in business. No one will work with you, collaborate with you or buy from you if you are not trusted. How you communicate and show up in those relationships determines whether you build or break trust and that affects your bottom line.
Teach us something about {internet marketing, social media ads, fundraising, yoga, sales funnels or another topic you pick}
Hilary Silver: People won’t buy from you if they can’t feel you. Live video is the best way to connect with an audience because they can not only hear your message and content but they can get a feel for who you are as a person; your style, your manner and your authenticity. That builds the know, like, trust factor faster than any other medium. In fact, using live video regularly, I gained enough exposure that in less than two years online, I was invited to be an expert guest on the Steve Harvey show. Learn to be comfortable being imperfect yourself and sharing who you are by doing live video!
What’s something new you’ve learned in the past month?
Our personal development work is never done and it is just as much a part of our success in business as any other business skill or strategy. I have been able to manifest everything I have ever wanted with ease; from world travel to my soul mate of 17 years and my dream of a being a successful therapist helping others. But in the ups and downs of growing an online business, I have learned that having a clear vision of what we want is the only way to see it materialize- and that we can only grow as big as we believe we are capable of being. Busting through subconscious internal limiting beliefs is critical for BIG success.
What do you think you do better than most people?
Hilary Silver: Communicate.
What should an entrepreneur focus on?
Hilary Silver: Passion. I believe where your focus goes, grows. Stay focused on what lights you up, fills you up and gives your life purpose. That is the only way to weather the manyups and downs of entrepreneurship. If ever you come to doubt yourself or the decision to be an entrepreneur, go back to what you love and why you started this in the first place. (same is true for marriage by the way)
What are some of the best books you’ve ever read?
Hilary Silver: Loving Relationships by a little known author Robert Shelton – changed my life at 19 years old and started my career, though I didn’t yet know it at the time.
The Science Of Getting Rich by Wallace Wattles this book was originally published in 1910 and is the precursor for what we all now know as the Law Of Attraction
A Road Less Traveled by M. Scott Peck
Where do you see yourself and your product in a couple years?
Hilary Silver: Sharing my relationship expertise to a global audience by hosting a tv show, producing fabulous high vibe live events and being of service to many with high end immersive mastermind experiences that include private time with me. Entrepreneurs need personal empowerment, leadership and relationship skills in order to achieve their fullest potential and to enjoy the ultimate success – which is having it all in business AND a thriving love life.
