In a time where terms like growth hacking, marketing, and influencer marketing are thrown around it can be hard to find authentic and genuine people who have results.
Justin Wu has been hustling since the age of 13, from building websites and earning passive income to selling items on eBay to fulfill his wants of buying Pokemon and Yu-Gi-Oh cards; Justin realized from an early age that if he wanted to buy things that he enjoyed, he realized that he was going to have to be a little creative on how he earned his money.
Through his eBay business he built a community through forums and monetized the attention through google ads which garnered him the traffic and attention to generate internet money.
He is a serial entrepreneur and recognized for collaborating top media outlets like the Wall Street Journal,Intel, NASDAQ and more.
His startup has also been invested by Warner Bros a few years ago and currently has a lot of other projects going on at the moment. Currently, he is focused on growing his agency Growth.ly which helps businesses with their growth marketing strategy and has done Kickstarter campaigns which have generated $2.5 million in 30 days.
Originally, Justin wanted to build a startup but realized that at that time he didn’t know how he was going to get venture capital or raise money to fund the idea so he decided to start a marketing agency called Dealer Bus which specialized in helping car dealerships and real estate agencies with their marketing.
He focused on what a lot of businesses don’t focus on is pure cashflow.
What is the difference between growth hacking and marketing ?
Marketers are mainly focused on creativity and building awareness of the product without understanding characteristics like product market fit. Justin believes growth hacking encompasses: product engineering, data analytics and marketing together to ensure that the KPI that is being focused on is achieved.
Most marketers miss out on creating a product market fit and refining the product so customers actually want to use it and feel the need for it vs just creating campaigns to see which one targets the ideal customer.
Growth hacking is a mindset, it’s essentially lean marketing where you need to utilize the resources at your disposal and not use money as an excuse for the reason why one can’t execute.
The 2 skills Justin suggests in mastering the core of marketing is funnels and inbound marketing. Growth hacking is a set of tactics one can utilize which is complementary to the core marketing competencies and not necessarily a different field or distinction within itself.
How do you become omnipresent across all platforms ?
“Omnipresence isn’t about platforms, people need to focus on mediums and understand their core competency whether it be video, audio or written. Once a person figures that out, they can exploit it on a particular platform and heavily utilize it to its full advantage. “
The key 2 steps to remember around being omnipresent is
- Mastering the medium and selecting it.
- Finding the platform and dominating one platform before moving onto the next.
Everyone has an agenda for utilizing a particular platform and delivering value to an audience is done through the chosen medium.
Future projects you are currently working on ?
Other than planning for events around Stacking Growth, Justin is working in projects related to cryptocurrencies and other projects related to Growth.ly.
