Odds are, if you have been on social media this year you have seen the phenomenon that is the burrito blanket. This idea was founded by Tyler Lubin and Andrew McCarthy. Upon seeing dogs wrapped in blankets with the hashtag “burritoblanket”, they decided to launch a literal burrito blanket.
Neither Lubin nor McCarthy were new to the business world. “I was always heavily engaged with social media. I would spend hours everyday scrolling through content on Instagram and Twitter. However, this transitioned into a distraction, and eventually an addiction. Rather than lessening my social media presence, I decided to monetize it” Lubin explained. Lubin has since used social media as a means in business. He is able to quickly spot trends and often figure out ways to monetize them before it is too late.
McCarthy on the other hand, started with ecommerce at the age of 16. He began building brands and selling things through social media platforms such as Instagram, Facebook, and Twitter. “Over the years I have become familiar with how to quickly grow a brand’s online presence and bring in profitable revenue streams” McCarthy explained. The two were able to easily play off of each other’s strength to generate over a million dollars in revenue in only six months of partnership.
One thing is for certain, both McCarthy and Lubin have been able to use their strengths to their advantage. They are forward thinkers that have been able to put their all into their company. Rather than take the profits that their company has made, they would rather reinvest it in order to continue growing. These founders have realized that the best use of their money is investing in themselves. They are their biggest asset. When asked where they see their company in 5 years they replied “In five years we hope to expand our product line with a variety of different products and category extensions. In the next few weeks we will be selling The Burrito Blanket on Macys.com. In the coming months we hope to expand into larger retail stores like Walmart. The Burrito Blanket will live on to be a household meme item”.
One thing is for certain, The Burrito Blanket has successfully brought smiles, laughs, comfort and warmth to households across the nation. This product has the potential to grow exponentially and with Lubin and McCarthy in control it surely will.
