At just 26, Chris Dufey was listed among the top young entrepreneurs in Dubai. While celebrating this success, Chris was miserable inside. He built a business that he now defins as the ‘old model’. And by making a simple switch to the ‘new model’ his business, freedom and happiness has exploded.
Chris Dufey meteoric rise to become a much respected and sought after business titan is quite an inspiring story. To make it in Dubai, he had to leave a stable job. At the time, he was a personal trainer with a bright future in the business. Then he gave it all up. The long list of already subscribed clients, the team that was working for him – he gave all that up – but for what?
The following article tells Chris Dufey’s story and how he gave up a promising business to venture into the unknown. It also tells of how you can get out of your comfort zone and pursue your passion.
Why Chris Dufey Quit Being a Personal Trainer
“From the outside looking in, anyone could tell that I was a successful personal trainer,” Chris says. “But it was all a lie,” He adds. Despite the fact that he had a full book of clients paying a premium rate and an able team working for him, Chris felt uncomfortable. He realized that there was no time for family left in his schedule. Chris wanted to be a real father and husband, but because of his business, he was always late for the moments that really mattered.
As each workday came to an end, the one thing on his mind was how he would get home just in time to give his daughter the bottle and put her to bed. Unfortunately, or as it would be expected from a busy man like him, Chris always ran late. He would arrive home after putting the pedal to the metal only to find his daughter asleep. The guilt that followed robbed him of his sleep and he consequently loathed reporting back to his own business the following day. He was certain that as long as he continued developing his personal trainer business, he would always be late for his family. The came the big question. “For how long can I continue doing this?” Chris pondered. That day, he quit his job.
The Price He Had to Pay
As a personal trainer, Chris was kind of obsessed with being able to help people transform their bodies and knowing the effect of how that positively affects their entire life. Like any other personal trainers currently in the industry, his business was all about the rush to get the money. It was all about exchanging time for money. So when he decided to let go of the business to pursue his passion, Chris essentially stepped into a world of uncertainty. He did not know for sure if the thing he was going to pursue would sustain him, let alone his wife and three daughters.
If he failed, Chris would never be in a position to forgive himself. Though it did not matter much to him what others thought of his decision, at the back of his mind he knew that failure would outrightly turn him into an example. That the personal trainer friends he left spinning the wheel as he left would finally tell him “We told you so!” Chris was, however, unbowed and though there was so much fear of coming out of his comfort zone, he knew he had to do it for himself and his family.
Chris Dufey’s Passion and How He Made It There As Well
For a long time, Chris wanted to be a successful man. He craved the uninterrupted company of his family and still wanted to make enough money to fund the life he wanted to give them. He wanted to travel the world with his family and work from anywhere. Chris also had in him the heart to help people. So he looked for a way to do all these things and still remain relevant in the health and fitness industry. In a bid to do this, Chris transformed himself into an online trainer and business coach. He helps personal trainers up their game and live their ideal life. Chris now runs a multi-million dollar business while managing to travel the world with his family and work from literally anywhere. His online coaching programs are transforming lives all over the globe and he is not anywhere near the end of his journey.
Of how he made it in the new venture, Chris says, “There are two clear factors that have led to my success. First, I have been able to time collapse and achieve goals faster only because I focused on less. Being able to put more energy into fewer and more important things will yield faster and greater results. It is the discipline of having a daily focus to moving forward on what matters.” He adds, “Second, as much my ego wants to bask in all the glory, I always shake myself from that. Luck or fortune did not play any part in the achievement of my goals. It has been hard work and support from people who matter most in my life. That is why I give back by helping others become like me. To me, that is a win, and it gives me the chance to keep moving forward.”
To sum it all up, Chris Dufey had a word for all up and coming entrepreneurs. He says, “Play the long game. Too many times I see young entrepreneurs fail simply because they are looking for quick results. The truth is, I have never had a massive growth spike. Rather, it has been a constant accumulation of growth. If you can fall in love with the process and have the discipline to stay focused on what really matters for the long haul, you will win.” To learn more about what Chris Dufey does, check out coachescartel.com.
