We sat down with him to learn more about his background and what led to his rapid growth and success.
How did you come up with the idea of Referral Connector System?
My company is Maverick Media Lab and our core service is the Referral Connector System which is a 3 pillar process that helps businesses generate more referrals without networking events, cold calling, or advertising. The idea for the Referral Connector System stemmed from listening to the market and what its needs were. I noticed a lot of competitors were doing the same thing which, in turn, has made the service of lead generation a commodity. As I talked to many business owners I began to notice that there were common problems that came up for various business owners.
I then sought out to create a productized service that solves a very specific problem for a specific type of client. You’ll notice the keyword there being “specific.” And that’s what I’ve found to be a key to growth, is to have focus as in one flagship service to one ideal client. That has given us not only the ability to solve that specific problem to a much higher degree but also from an operational standpoint, it increases profit margins and decreases any bottlenecks in service delivery.
How did you promote your company in the early days?
We use a multi-channel approach when it comes to getting clients. We’ve found that using Linkedin, Facebook, Instagram, and email has been the most effective in terms of client acquisition.
At first, it was a bit frustrating but the biggest thing that created a breakthrough was knowing our niche, crafting a relevant message to that niche, tweaking and testing that message, and then being very consistent. Once these things were in place, we were off to the races and saw a consistent flow of leads coming in.
We also started putting out content consistently on social media, specifically video. When you show up consistently, it builds trust and when you do through video it builds trust even faster especially considering how much time people spend on their social media, it creates so much exposure for your business. We regularly have people reaching out because they found our videos or our articles and as a result of the value they got, they want to work with us.
How have you been able to grow your business?
When I reflect on the last couple of years of growth, I feel like it really comes down to being customer centric and listening to what the market wants along with having a proven and predictable process for client acquisition paired with a streamlined client delivery system that can support scale. I would also say that grit and perseverance played a huge role. Like many other business owners, there have been many times where I’ve felt like throwing in the towel but those very moments are what defined and made me level up and take bolder actions in business.
What I’ve learned is that our darkest times come right before our biggest leaps. As long as you decide not to stop then you are unstoppable and nothing can get in your way.
What are some secrets to sales in your most successful platform?
Honestly, we just zigged when everyone else zagged. My mentor taught me something about business that has always stuck with me. He said “The end is secure and business is not hard at all… it’s mechanical. It’s a game of iterations. You have a hypothesis and you test it in the marketplace and the market gives you feedback. You then take that feedback and double down on what works or you iterate again until you find something that works.” So that’s what we did.
We’ve tested so many things over the last years until we found processes that worked and we continue to do that even now. It never stops because there can always be improvements that can be made.
What is something that changed your view completely about doing business?
When I was in the beginning stages of my business I went to a seminar and one of the speakers had broken down a simple concept that forever changed the way I view business and serves as the foundation for our own client acquisition process. It’s called the KLT funnel. I remember like it was yesterday, he showed on the big screen the picture of a funnel and at the top had the letter K then L in the middle, and at the very bottom of the funnel was T. It stood for Know, Like, and Trust.
The basic premise being that the more eyeballs you can have on your brand, the more people know about you, and the more people that know about you, the more people that will like you depending on the value you put out, and the more value you put out, the more they will trust you and do business with you. At the end of the day, business is a game of relationships, and having concepts like the KLT funnel is what has made the backbone of our current marketing efforts so that we can provide more value, show proof or results, and get our brand in front of more eyeballs so that we can impact more people.
What do you think you do better than most people? How are you able to do it?
Our core strength has always been prospect and appointment setting. We’ve been able to nail down a system and create an infrastructure that allows us to bring on any client and within a week of launching their campaign start bringing in qualified appointments. We’ve been able to do this by
- Having the right people in the right positions where they are set up to win
- Having a proven prospecting process for each platform that allows us to predictably generate qualified appointments
- Implementing a culture of constant growth and innovation so we continue to improve and adapt with the changes that come in today’s rapid age of technology.
What are some of the best books you’ve ever read?
- Reality Transurfing by Vadim Zeland – This book for me opened my eyes to a new way of thinking and viewing the world. For those with an open mind and hunger for learning, I highly recommend this book.
- Becoming Supernatural by Dr. Joe Dispenza – The journey of entrepreneurship will require a better version of yourself and reading this book (get the Audible version too) sheds light on how to transform into the person you were meant to be.
- The Alchemist – I read this back in high school and it’s still one of my favorite non-fiction books. It’s perfect for anyone who is looking to start a business. There’s a lot of wisdom and golden nuggets to be gained from this book. I’ve read it twice now!
Where do you see yourself and your product in a couple years? What’s your dream?
The vision I see for Maverick Media Lab is to continue bringing innovation and creativity into industries that need it the most. One of our biggest company values is the impact so it leads our decisions when we decide on the next steps of the company. Our most recent big change is expanding our reach to Canada where we’re now taking on clients and implementing our systems which have brought incredible results so far! These are really exciting times and we’re looking forward to not only the growth of our company but the growth of our client’s businesses as they grow with us!
