Today millions of people know Frederick Hutson as the business maverick who is at the helm of a communications solutions company with an immense global reach. But there is a story behind this amazing success. And that story is full of inspiration and priceless life lessons.
The story begins in Brooklyn New York, where Hutson spent his youth with his mother and three siblings. After leaving high school, he served in the air force and was honourably discharged at age 23. His affinity for entrepreneurship became increasingly evident while he served in the air force. He demonstrated incredible business prowess by launching several successful businesses, one of which he later sold.
Challenged by Adversity
His strong penchant for problem solving and entrepreneurship landed Hutson in trouble with the law. He figured out a clandestine and efficient method for the distribution of marijuana which involved the use of the USPS, DHL and Fed Ex.
At the age of 23, he was caught, charged, and incarcerated to serve a sentence that would last 51 months- major setback number one. But it was a setback that Hutson would later use a stepping stone to his success.
Pushing Past Adversity
As he served his sentence, the natural entrepreneur in Hutson saw something no one else did. There was a problem that needed to be solved and solving it could earn him millions of dollars. The problem was that existing regulations and limited availability of services made it difficult and expensive for inmates to stay connected with the people on the outside of the prison walls. Hutsonβs urge to solve problems pushed him to think of a solution.
Upon being released from prison, Hutson ramped up his efforts to convert his business from concept to reality. Like any astute businessman he knew he needed funding in order to do so. So he reached out to potential investors. This is when he encountered major setback number two.
Most investors shied away from his offer because of his background as well as the fact that the businessβ target market would include incarcerated people. Did Hutson allow this to stop him? Definitely not! He remained committed to the task until he finally found willing investors.
His hard work and determination paid off when in 2012 he was able to launch his company Pigeonly. There were more rewards in store though as the company under his leadership experienced industry defying growth of 30% monthly. Today Pigeonly has subscribers in over 88 countries, carving out for itself a pretty strong international presence.
To Sum Up!
Today, Hutson is a bastion of strength and inspiration for many people. Millions of people around the world, inspired by the way he worked to overcome adversities, gravitate to Hutson in both physical and virtual spaces.
This is why major media outlets such as The Huffington Post, Forbes Magazine, and the New York Times have featured his story. Without a doubt, he has lived a life that represents the kind of resilience that many dream of having.
