Most people think of an influencer is someone who only has clout. What people don’t realize though is that they are often the hardest workers in the room, lonely and in the constant pursuit of growth. That is the case for Harrison Wain, a 19 year old influencer from Sydney, Australia. Harrison is someone who needs no introduction, in fact it’d be hard not to know who he is, given that he has over 2 million followers on Instagram and almost 300,000 followers on Youtube. While most people might just think Harrison sits back and collects checks without putting in any real effort, that is not the case at all. Harrison and I recently had a discussion and I got to know just how hard he is actually working.
So Harrison, what do you do?
Harrison Wain/ BoxBoy: “Most people would call me a social media influencer, however most of my time is spent strategizing or iterating on ideas. I take a lot of time out of each day to really think about and implement what kind of content I want to put out into the world. It’s a lot of hard work but it’s absolutely worth it to know that anything I put out, I put 100% of my effort into. So many modern influencers take their position for granted and will just put out anything that comes to mind without actually fleshing it out to make sure that it’s quality content, that’s what separates me. I know for sure that when I’m releasing something to the public, it’s only getting my stamp of approval if it’s actually good content. If it’s not good, then I don’t want to have anything to do with it.”
What is your brand?
Harrison Wain/ BoxBoy: “My brand is @boxboy, that is my username across social media platforms like Instagram and Youtube where I have gained millions of followers and can push over 1 million social media impressions with just 1 story. I’m really grateful to have gotten my brand to be where it’s at today and I would never take that for granted. I am so blessed.”
What do you do when you’re working?
Harrison Wain/ BoxBoy: “Like I said earlier, most of my time is spent strategizing and iterating on ideas. I also spend about 6 hours per day on social media, minimum, during that time I’m networking with other people, forming meaningful relationships, getting ideas for new content to come up with, and just learning in general. I’m always growing. On top of the 6 hours daily on social media I spend a lot of time actually implementing our content, meaning I’m filming our videos, responding to direct messages on instagram or comments on youtube, editing our videos, etc… All the while I am with my team Minh Jeffrey Lê and Jessica Aguilar, they are amazing. There’s so much that goes into putting out content to millions of people that most people who think about what an influencer does wouldn’t assume that they’re doing, but we are. It takes so much hard work and you don’t just collect a bunch of money in the bank for doing nothing. It took years of hard work to get to where I am today, and just because I’ve finally made it to this point doesn’t mean that I can just rest now and enjoy the fruits of my labor, I am still working extremely hard to get even further ahead in life than I am now. If anything I’m working even harder today than I ever have, and I wouldn’t trade it for anything in the world. I love every second of what I do, so when I’m working I’m really enjoying every single moment of it, and I really hope that that’s something that everybody get’s to experience one day. There is no greater feeling in the world than following one’s passion, and because of hard work and my team, I can.
Anything you want to say to those reading this?
Harrison Wain/ BoxBoy: “Yes, never get complacent. I am always in a state that is pursuing growth, whether that be in social presence, influence, business, financially, personally, or all of the above. Growing is my passion, and you should always be growing no matter where you are in life just remember that you can always go to the next level. At the same time as that remember that it’s okay to enjoy yourself and have fun, there’s no need to stress yourself out or “sweat the small stuff” as people like to say. It is an influencer’s responsibility to set the example to the people that are looking up to them and show them that they can do anything that they want. Also don’t be afraid to step outside the box (no pun intended) so many people are just used to always doing the same thing as everyone else and they end up just becoming like clones, that’s boring, and the world doesn’t want boring. The world wants to see something new, and fresh, and exciting, and sometimes to deliver that new, fresh, and exciting content you have to switch it up a little, or a lot. Don’t be afraid to try new things, you never know if that new thing could catapult you towards your dreams.”
