In China we have a proverb: “It’s easy to break a chopstick, but they become unbreakable when we put all of them together,” says Leslie Gu, head of marketing at Leophile. Leophile, a company that devotes itself in designing the most ergonomically suitable Bluetooth headphones, believes strongly in teamwork as the key to bringing value to the entrepreneurial world.
Leophile headquarters in: Shenzhen, China
First of all, Leslie, tell the readers a little about yourself.
Here at Leophile, we’re not just one person, we’re a company. We’re a group of five dedicated product designers that work together to achieve what we have today. Over the past few years we have all built up our own experience in the tech, entrepreneurial industry by designing products for varying brands.
What failed to impress us, was most companies cared solely for profit or the creation of the newest trend. What they were forgetting was the user experience and what someone would value. This brought us together and forms the foundation of the teamwork we have created today.
Why have the members of your team pursued entrepreneurship?
We did not enter the business world with the intention to become successful entrepreneurs. We came together from our shared perception of life, attitude and value. We wanted to build value and attract the appropriate audience that can appreciate what we have created.
What prompted you to take the decision to invest time into the creation of Leophile?
We all came together for the same reason and this motivated our creation of Leophile. We simply felt our previous experience in various companies lacked the right attitude. It’s not just about profit or success. It’s about user experience. And that’s what we wanted to create.
Leophile’s product is ideal for active wear therefore we consider our audience to be quite playful and adventurous. So in addition to designing ergonomically suitable headphones, we wanted to help others to become more “playful” with their life. In fact, we remind ourselves that our work attitude is to face life with a playful attitude
What’s the vision for Leophile?
Besides designing the most ergonomically suitable headphones for people, we want to deliver value to our potential customers. To keep this up we always remember life can be tough but it’s beautiful so embrace whatever comes into our path. Pursuing our passion should never conflict with our happiness.
What has been the biggest difficulty the team has faced in getting Leophile up and running?
We don’t like to think of issues as difficult. They’re more of an interesting and adventurous redirection and an active part of our journey. It’s better to see a difficulty as a game that we can play with -if we fail, we will start over.
What lesson have you learnt from working together in Leophile?
We believe that teamwork is far more valuable than an individual’s ability and effort. In China we have an old saying: “It’s easy to break a chopstick, but they become unbreakable when we put all of them together.”
As an entrepreneur what advice can you give anyone seeking to start their own business?
Don’t think about creating a successful business, nor reaching great profit. It’s all about the value you bring and the attitude you maintain. Think about what YOU want to build before you start a business. It’s never going to be easy, but it will be an adventure.
