Mark Rios a.k.a. Mr Dripping does a Portrait with The Fresh Prince

Imagine meeting your role model. The person who has inspired you, majorly impacted you, personally and professionally influenced you. Now imagine performing for this person… Mark Rios recently experienced this mixture of elation and apprehension as he dripped a portrait for actor, rapper and film producer Will Smith.

From his native Barcelona to Los Angeles to Dubai, Mr. Dripping, né Mark Rios, is upending the international modern art scene. Self-taught, his technique furthers Jackson Pollock’s method, he paints without physically touching the canvas. From dripping lines of paint emerge a realistic portrait, a striking image of the human figure. Mr. Dripping brings the formless to form, he captures the essence of his subject’s personality and emotions. 

What’s most incredible is Mr. Dripping does this live. He has pioneered an interactive cultural experience which allows clients to participate in the creation of art. Mr. Dripping’s immersive performances have been commissioned by Paul Pogba, Chris Brown, Sara Sapio and Neymar. Nine months ago, when he discovered his childhood icon Will Smith was staying the same hotel, Mr. Dripping was determined to put on a show for The Fresh Prince. 

He dripped a portrait, along with a video of the process, and arranged their delivery to Will. When Will Smith and his team of management, staff and security entered the room, Mr. Dripping stunned them by revealing a blank canvas. To their astonishment, he said “If you weren’t here, I’d have no choice but to deliver a painting to you, dry and in a box… but the beauty of it lies in the process and you’re standing right here, so please I ask you to sit and enjoy.”

The legend Will Smith smiled and sat. Between jokes and laughter, Mr. Dripping did what he does best, he performed his exceptional art and they shared an unforgettable experience. Mr. Dripping is still amazed, he never fathomed hearing claps of praise from the one person he’s always admired. It’s an inexplicable feeling, one that motivates Mr. Dripping to keep creating.
