Today we caught up with celebrity photographer, ZAZU. He shares how he got started, how he turns his hustle into income, life on the road with celebrities, and finally a knowledge bomb.
1 – How did you get into photography?
Eight or nine months ago, I had come back to the states after my first visit to London Fashion week and had been influenced by a friend to purchase an instant film camera. I had owned a camera before, but it hadn’t become an extension of myself until this moment.
2 – Tell us about your business?
My business is a multifaceted social media marketing company. We focus on the message that a brand or personality wants to convey to their audience to help them convert and grow their audience. It’s truly the purest form of connection when your, personality, your message, and your content are all congruent.
3- What is it like traveling with celebrities?
Traveling with celebrities is surreal. It was never something that I thought was in the realm of my reach until it happened, but at the same time a celebrity wasn’t always a celebrity, they earned their way to fame and notoriety. Celebs are just normal people at the end of the day.
They like the same things as you and I, they just get bombarded with attention. I am extremely blessed to have been recognized by Colson Baker (MachineGunKelly). He really opened up a lot of doors for me in terms of opportunity, introduced me to the people in his circle of bosses, and really helped me become self-aware of my talent.
4 – What advice do you have for artists starting out?
Artists should focus always on their art. I find that most creatives lose their way because they get too focused on making money or recognition rather than maintaining their passion. Don’t lose your passion, always push your boundaries, never stop creating.
