Background
Why did you decide to become an entrepreneur?
Mieko Louise: Because I like being the boss and there are no limits to what you can do. I still have a long way to go but I am enjoying this new stage in my life.
Who were your biggest influences? Was there a defining moment in your life?
Mieko Louise: The moments that defined me the most were my rock bottom moments of which I’ve had my fair share but I just keep learning and growing. If you look at failing as another word for learning then you can never fail in anything, you can only learn.
Having had a near death experience in my twenties really put things into perspective that time is precious, every minute of your life counts so once I started appreciating my life and not taking it for granted is when things really shifted.
What are you working on? How did you come up with this idea?
Mieko Louise: My e-commerce fashion business www.houseofbadass.com is about encouraging people to be Badass with their attitude and to never give up on their dreams. Ive always loved fashion and been good at visual design so I came up with the idea to create a line of clothing which represents this attitude and also for my own selfish reasons to have a creative outlet and have something new in life to master.
I also started an email marketing agency called Digital Deft www.digitaldeftmarketing.com aimed at e-commerce store owners.
How is your product/service different and unique? What’s the vision?
Mieko Louise: Our vision is simply to inspire people to be their best most badass selves, to believe in themselves and have a badass attitude in life which will carry them far in life.
Who are your customers? How do you find them?
Mieko Louise: Customers are mostly from USA as that is who we target and they come to us through our social media channels.
Did you experience failure along the way? What did you learn from it?
Mieko Louise: Yes, its been a process of trial and error in marketing to specific audiences. In the beginning we went to broad with our reach and have now narrowed down to specific niches.
Value-add questions
Give the readers the best entrepreneurship advice you have.
Mieko Louise: The best advice I have is to invest in yourself, never give up on your dreams, believe in yourself even if nobody else does and stay humble but be badass! I started out with nothing but I was determined so I went on a learning spree and am still learning so much about entrepreneurship everyday. So read books, take courses, build up your knowledge and skills. Also get a few mentors who have the real life experience and success in the same vocation as you.
Teach us something about {internet marketing, social media ads, fundraising, sales funnels or another topic} Can you recommend any favorite websites to learn that topic?
Mieko Louise: I learn from a bunch of different mentors so if you’re just starting out, go with your gut and pick the best mentor for you, there’s so many ways you can make money online these days if you just scroll your Facebook ads feed. I started out with Tai Lopez and grew from there.
What should an entrepreneur focus on?
Mieko Louise: What you are best at, where your strengths and genius lies. There are many kinds of tests you can take that will give you a clearer picture here: https://www.geniusu.com/psychometrics
What are some of your favorite books?
I don’t read books anymore, only listen to audiobooks or take courses related to business.
Where do you see yourself and your product in a couple years?
Dominating the Sports and Streetwear landscape.
