In this day and age, HR professionals have become workforce advisors. As their roles continue to evolve it’s more important than ever to keep a pulse on the industry.
Today, we had the distinct please of chatting with HR industry expert and executive, Adam McCoy, MBA, SHRM-SCP, SPHR, GPHR.
1) Can you start by telling us about your organization (Mile High SHRM) and its mission to prepare for the future of HR?
Adam McCoy: Mile High SHRM is the largest HR association in the state of Colorado and is amongst the 20 largest in the nation. We exist to educate and connect our members, to the leading trends in HR, and to create a strong network within the area, where HR professionals turn for resources and connections.
The vision of Mile High SHRM is to be the Human Resources community in Denver you turn to for cutting-edge knowledge, to build lasting connections that create a foundation for your personal success and to drive business value for the organizations we serve.
Mile High SHRM is an organization of business leaders and professionals with expertise and knowledge in Human Resources who are the voice of HR in the broader Denver metro area.
Our mission is:
-To provide high-quality relevant education on both foundational and trending HR topics;
-To offer professional-grade networking and connection opportunities that enhance the skills and visibility of our members; and
-To create experiences for our members and volunteers to engage and impact the community.
2) How can entrepreneurs benefit from joining Mile High SHRM?
Adam McCoy: Entrepreneurs who are looking to make connections with HR leaders in Denver have but one place to look, MHSHRM. We offer opportunities for in-person networking throughout the year, where HR Pros can connect with Resource Providers of all types and sizes, to help them solve their pressing HR needs. The most successful entrepreneurs use our events to make connections in a non-salesy way, but where they’re authentic desire to help HR Pros comes across, and they become a natural outlet for the HR Pro in need.
3) What are you most excited about with this year’s Mile High SHRM Annual Conference?
Adam McCoy: This is my favorite event of the year…it’s truly an opportunity to feel the power of the HR community throughout the front range. When we all come together, you can see a group of influencers who are shaping the human talent quotient for years to come! It is an event which is full of networking and educational opportunities, where we all take time away from our busy schedules to pause and learn…something we need to do more of, but this is a start.
4) What is the single biggest change you expect to see this year and beyond with HR?
Adam McCoy: I expect to continue to see changes in the legislative arena, as more employee friendly legislation will work its way through the Colorado State house, which will impact us all. These will likely collide with similar changes on the Federal level, and as HR Pros, we’ll need to figure this course out together. Beyond some of these changes, I do expect HR to be pressured to look for talent in more non-traditional talent pools, especially as the market begins to cool, and talent tightens up even more than now. We also will need to ensure our workplaces continue to evolve and meet the needs of the multi-generational workforce, which can create conflicts if not well managed. All this said, it will be an exciting time to come for HR Pros in Colorado, and when we work collectively as members of MHSHRM, we will shape the future together!
