Immigration poses many challenges to people attempting to navigate the process. If you are able to successfully conquer that system and arrive in the United States, it is still difficult to understand finances and credit card procedures. This is the problem that Sammy Samuel faced when coming to the United States from Grenada.
āI was born and raised on the Southern Caribbean island of Grenada. I immigrated to the USA at age of 18. I had no knowledge of credit and didnāt learn from my parents. I found myself suffering from the typical issues: credit score in the 500’s, overwhelmed with debt. I filed Chapter 7 at age of 22, thinking that was the answer, however, the situation went back to the same immediately after because it was just an easy fix because I still lacked financial literacy. It wasnāt until I learned about credit that my mindset changed. That is why I am so passionate about helping others become financially literate.ā Recounts Sammy.
Sammy realized that he was not the only one who suffered from these problems with finances. Not only was this something that happened to immigrants who were new to the system, but it happened to people all across the United States. Because of this, Sammy decided to start a business that was dedicated to helping people understand their finances.
āMillions of Americans are lacking financial literacy mainly because our schools donāt teach it and most of our parents were ignorant to this. While serving as a Corpsman in the U.S. Navy, I discoveredĀ that having theĀ finances didnāt make a difference because I encountered fellow service members as well as doctors, nurses, etc. with similar credit problems, all leading to a lack of proper financial literacy. This business gave me an opportunity to have a platform to create change that will last generations in many families.ā Explains Sammy.
The current pandemic has only made Sammyās business and job more important. The virus has stretched peopleās finances and made saving even more crucial if it is possible in these difficult times. Sammy is trying to help people as much as he can to financially support themselves.
āThis time of pandemic has given the opportunity to reflect on a lot. I was able to see how easy it is for peopleās lives to be turned upside down. It also burns my heart to see people of lower socioeconomic classes being affected more due a number of factors. My overall goal in this business is to provide as much education as I can to a large number of families so they in turn can share with their children and break the cycle of financial irresponsibility due to ignorance of this important subject.ā States Sammy.
Sammy knows that there are a lot of other financial literacy companies out there that offer similar services, so he has tried to differentiate himself from others by offering more than just financial counseling. Instead, he tries to connect to all of his customers having been someone who has also suffered from problems with finances.
āThere are a large number of companies that offer credit repair as their sole product, our focus however is to be a one stop shop for financial literacy. While credit repair is the flagship program, we additional services that will repair, rebuild, educate, and maintain our clients overall finances. Family means everything to me. Just like my family, I genuinely care about every individual I interact with. Whether it is a client or a business partner; I strive to create a lasting positive relationship. My goal is to provide value to everyone that I come into contact with so that they can elevate not only their lives, but the lives of future generations.ā Says Sammy.
Though Sammy had to overcome many obstacles as an immigrant in the United States, and having to change his mindset completely to start his business from employee to entrepreneur, he has created a successful business. In the future, he hopes to mentor more people like himself and helping them start their own businesses.
āI am grateful for the opportunity to escape my financial hell hole and create a path for elevation and growth. Moving forward, I plan to focus on mentoring like minded, motivated and success driven individuals by guiding them to start and grow their own home based business by assisting other families to improve their finances, while achieving the same for themselves and creating an additional source of income.ā Responds Sammy.
